The Certificate in English Language at the Somali Institute of Technology and Professional Studies (SITPS) is a comprehensive program crafted to meet the linguistic needs of learners at all stages—from absolute beginners to advanced English users. The course offers a progressive, learner-centered approach aimed at enhancing communication competence for academic, professional, and everyday use.

Delivered in an on-demand, flexible mode, the course leverages expert online tutors and dynamic content to guide learners from their first steps in English to near-native fluency. Each level builds systematically on the last, ensuring that learners develop confidence, fluency, and accuracy in all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.


🔰 Program Coverage – Level A1 to Level C2

The program is divided into six levels, grouped into three broad categories:

  • Basic User (A1, A2)

  • Independent User (B1, B2)

  • Proficient User (C1, C2)

Each level is structured to align with the CEFR global scale of language proficiency.


🟢 Level A1 – Introduction to English (Beginner)

Students at this level learn to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.

Key Objectives:

  • Mastering the English alphabet and correct pronunciation

  • Greetings, introductions, and asking/responding to simple questions

  • Numbers, days of the week, months, seasons, and telling time

  • Simple sentence structure using “to be”, and present simple tense

  • Reading signs, menus, timetables, and notices

  • Writing names, addresses, simple phrases, and filling basic forms

  • Listening to slow, clear speech and responding with basic expressions


🟢 Level A2 – Everyday Usage & Fluency (Elementary)

Learners develop their vocabulary and grammatical accuracy for everyday situations.

Key Objectives:

  • Talking about routines, hobbies, preferences, and feelings

  • Describing people, weather, clothing, and places

  • Forming questions, giving directions, making requests, and offers

  • Introduction to regular and irregular plural nouns, articles, and possessive forms

  • Reading short passages, notes, and personal messages

  • Writing simple emails, lists, postcards, and informal letters

  • Participating in short social dialogues and role-plays


🟡 Level B1 – Practical Communication (Intermediate)

Learners begin to express themselves in familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, and leisure.

Key Objectives:

  • Holding conversations about daily life, family, work, and travel

  • Using present, past, and future tenses effectively

  • Making suggestions, complaints, and giving opinions

  • Reading advertisements, brochures, short news articles, and basic instructions

  • Writing structured paragraphs, summaries, descriptive texts, and short essays

  • Engaging in role-plays for real-life settings (e.g., doctor’s visit, hotel check-in)

  • Listening to native English speech at a moderate speed


🟡 Level B2 – Independent Interaction (Upper Intermediate)

Learners at this level can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity with native speakers.

Key Objectives:

  • Expressing detailed opinions, agreement/disagreement, and reasons

  • Engaging in extended conversations and discussions on familiar and some unfamiliar topics

  • Understanding and using phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions

  • Reading detailed factual texts, reports, and literary extracts

  • Writing formal letters, argumentative essays, summaries, and reports

  • Comprehending complex audio materials, interviews, and podcasts

  • Participating in debates, interviews, and simulations of workplace scenarios


🔵 Level C1 – Advanced Proficiency

Learners can use English flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.

Key Objectives:

  • Expressing nuanced ideas clearly and fluently without searching for words

  • Adapting language style and register based on context and audience

  • Using a wide range of grammar structures and advanced vocabulary

  • Reading and analyzing journalistic, academic, and literary texts

  • Writing critical essays, research summaries, and professional correspondence

  • Understanding idiomatic, colloquial, and figurative language

  • Delivering formal presentations, speeches, and participating in negotiations


🔵 Level C2 – Mastery (Near-native Proficiency)

Learners reach a level of English close to that of a native speaker.

Key Objectives:

  • Comprehending virtually everything heard or read with ease

  • Summarizing complex information from different spoken and written sources

  • Expressing themselves spontaneously, precisely, and coherently in all contexts

  • Writing academic articles, policy documents, and literary critiques

📝 Assessment & Certification

Each level includes continuous and final assessments to monitor progress and certify competence. These include:

  • Quizzes & Written Assignments

  • Listening & Reading Comprehension Tasks

  • Speaking Evaluations (Live or Recorded)

  • Final Integrated Oral and Written Examination

Upon successful completion of each level, learners receive a Level Certificate, culminating in a Certificate in English Language – Proficiency (C2) for those who complete all levels.
